FOLK ENSEMBLE
JÁNOŠÍK FROM SVIT
The folk ensemble
JÁNOŠÍK is
one of the first amateur ensembles in Slovakia that started to
collect and interpret the most beautiful customs, songs and dances
of Slovak folklore.
It works in an industrial town of Svit
situated below the High Tatra Mountains. Its activity in the sphere of folk
culture and art during its long existence was awarded by many prizes in
Slovakia and abroad.
Since its origin in 1956 it presents
scenically Slovak traditions from various regions like Zemplin, Liptov,
Zamagurie, Podpolanie, Spis, Pohronie and Horehronie.
The folk ensemble JÁNOŠÍKhas three
basic components - dancing, musical and singing. Long and shorter dance
formations alternate in the program, then also musical performances with solo
singers and playing the folk instruments. Including in this repertoire the
ensemble introduces various folk custom traditions like Easter, building of
May poles, burying of a bass and Christmas carols.
At the present time the ensemble has 70
members, especially young people joined together by love of folk traditions of
their ancestors.
During fifty years there were
almost 500 members in the ensemble, that had approximately 2000
performances.
The folk ensemble JÁNOŠÍK
participated in many great home and foreign festivals in Germany,
England, France, Italy, Austria, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Spain,
Russia, Hungary, Romania, Yugoslavia, Finland, Japan, Turkey,
Cyprus, South Korea, where the high level of the Slovak folklore
were presented.
