VESTMENTS FROM SLOVAKIA
SLOVAK CHURCH OF Sts. CYRIL AND METHODIUS
IN NEW
WESTMINSTER BRITISH COLUMBIA
40th
ANNIVERSARY
JUNE 25, 2000
In September of 1999, Father Jozef
Menus a young priest from Slovakia fluent in Slovak and English, who
studied in Bratislava and Rome became our new priest. The prayers of the
Slovak believers at our Church were answered and it wouldn’t be possible
without the great help of the Most Reverend Archbishop Adam Exner of
Vancouver.

Since the arrival of Father Menus,
there are many changes in our church. We have Sunday Slovak school for
children, the church choir has expanded, there is children choir, more
people come to Sunday services and What's really nice there are more and
more young people attending. That will assure the continuance of our
community. Slovak Heritage and Cultural Society recently donated 308
Slovak books and 84 videos to the church’s library and as soon as they
are catalogued, they will be enjoyed by any member of the church.

A new marble altar was built just
prior to our 40th anniversary celebrations held on June 25, 2000. The
Celebrant was the Most Reverend Archbishop Adam Exner who also consecrated
the new marble altar.
Father Menus greeting remarks were:
"Your excellency I would like to welcome you in our Slovak community
in our Slovak Church. We are part of Slovak community and we are part of
your diocese. You are here today not only to celebrate the 40th
anniversary of our parish but also to consecrate our new altar."
