PROFILE OF A
SLOVAK ARTIST
TIBOR HARCEG
Tibor was born in Nadlice near
Topolcany, Slovakia in 1941. Grown up in Bratislava where his parents
moved in 1946. He was always interested in arts, but the fine arts at the
time were reserved for a few as a tribute to the previous regime. After
formal education, Tibor almost made it to the conservatory of music in
violin, but a fate made a trick and in 1959 he became a junior wrestling
champion of Czechoslovakia.
In 1968 Tibor come to Canada with his
wife and infant daughter. Many years were invested in establishing his
family, advancing his education and running a successful plumbing
business. Tibor realized his life dream in 1991, when he began taking art
classes. For the past four years he has received various awards at
regional art schools, including the B.C. Festival of Arts in 1993, and
1995.
In March 1995, he was accepted to
P.A.N.A-Professional Artist of North America and in May he entered his
first ARTDEX International competition, which is one of the most
prestigious art competitions in North America attracting entries from all
over the world. This competition is notable for the high standards of
artist's entries received from established, as well as new and emerging
artists from over 25 countries.
Tibor has received gold medal for his
"Visiting Friends" 34" x 48" acrylic painting of Koi
fish in his backyard pond.
