Liptovská
Tepička is a mountain village of Goral origin. It is located on the
northern foothill of Mt. Kráľova Hoľa in the southernmost
comer of the Liptov basin. It is distinctive for its upland farming with
tiny terraced fields on the slopes. In its surroundings you will find
unspoiled countryside with spruce forests, dwarf pine and meadows with
and altitude of 1948 m. Communication facilities are available via Štrba
or Spišské Bystré to Poprad.
It lies on the north slope of Kráľova Hoľa (King's Ridge),
one of the most well known ridges of Slovakia, near the spring Čierny
Váh. The territory of the village, with an area of almost 100 square
kilometers, is one of Slovakia's greatest, and extends to a height of
900 to 1948 meters above sea level. It's neighbors are: Važec Štrba,
Šuňava, Vikakartovce, Vernár, Telgart, Šumiac, Pohorelá, Heľpa,
and Východná (ten in all). The
length of its boundaries is more than 60 km.
The
first written reference of the community is from the year 1634. Gorals,
or Highlanders from Orava-Poland founded it near the border (between
Orava-Slovakia and Poland). It also gives witness to this day, to
the use of the highlander's language. The original building structures
were of wood only, and still today you can see original homes and barns,
particularly in the center of the community.
The
remoteness of Liptovská Teplička from its surroundings has made it
a place where folk customs, crafts, and folklore have been preserved to
this day. Among the attractions in the community, and besides the all
wooden structures, are cellars for storing potatoes and vegetables
pear-shaped pits, 2.5 to 3 meters deep with coverings made from logs and
a layer of soil sprinkled on top. They are found in just one place near
the area of the cemetery.
Liptovská Teplička, to this day, lives a traditional village life
with mountain agriculture in a beautiful spectacular environment of
forests, meadows, and high mountains.
Annual
Folk Festival takes place the first weekend in August. Folklore groups
from all over Slovakia participate, also groups from abroad. They are
unique in atmosphere of their own, because they not only present a look
at song, dance, and music, but also the folk traditions, handicrafts, food and folk entertainment.
Liptovská
Teplička offers possibilities for hiking, skiing, and alpine skiing
in the close surroundings of the village. Accommodation and catering is
available in the guesthouses, pensions and tourist hotels. You are sure
to experience a fine holiday in the mountains. |
